Animating old photos for free: what you actually get
Yes, you can try it for free, but almost every service limits the free version. On Incarn, your first animation is free as a low-resolution preview with a watermark, and all it takes is your email: no credit card, no subscription. To keep a video in HD without a watermark, you pay for that photo, from €1.99, or less in a pack.

On MyHeritage (Deep Nostalgia)
According to MyHeritage, the free tier lets you create 5 animations in total, with a MyHeritage account. Beyond that, animations come with a MyHeritage subscription, starting with the Photo plan at $49.90 per year according to MyHeritage (information checked on September 28, 2026). If you already pay for MyHeritage for your family tree, the animations are included.
General AI video generators
Many general-purpose AI video tools give a few free credits every day. They are designed for creative prompts rather than for preserving a real person's face, so check how faithful the result is before using one for a family portrait.
Getting the most out of a free try
- Use your best photo first: the sharpest face you have, looking toward the camera.
- Crop around the face before uploading.
- If the print is damaged right on the face, restore it first; scratches elsewhere do not matter much.
